How do I renew a loan?
To renew a loan, select the request from the Checked Out Items link under the View heading after logging in. When the request opens, click the Renew Request link at the top of the page. You will be notified via email the decision of the lending library as soon as we receive their notification.
**Note: Renewals must be requested before the item is due. If you are not able to renew your request online, click here to send an email to ILL asking for a renewal.
How long should it take for my requests to arrive?
It depends on a number of factors, but in general, from the time you submit the request:
Articles will usually arrive in a few days or less.
Loans will generally arrive in week or two.
I'm a graduate assistant and need to request items for my professor (or vice versa). How do I do this?
In order to protect the accounts of graduate assistants, a professor or assistant should create a new account in the professor’s name, with “-PROXY” after the last name of the professor. This will let interlibrary loan staff know that the new account should not be merged into the faculty member’s existing ILLiad account.
Each graduate assistant can then be listed as an authorized user. Students will need to be authorized separately at the circulation desk, as this authorization only applies to interlibrary loan.
What is Scan4You?
Scan4You is a service by the Document Delivery department that will scan print materials from the Saint Rose periodicals collection and deliver them to your ILLiad account. Simply fill out an interlibrary loan request in ILLiad and we will deliver a PDF of the article to you.
Can I access dissertations through the library?
To request a dissertation or thesis, click the Request a Thesis/Dissertation Link from the main menu. Make sure to include in the request: the author, title and year of publication. You will be asked to confirm that you wish you order the dissertation, with more details provided at that time. If it is confirmed that you do need the item, we will usually be able to deliver it within a few hours. (Please note that on rare occasions, there is a three-to-five day waiting period as the item is scanned.)
How long do I have access to files after they've been delivered?
All files are automatically deleted after 90 days. If you have lost access to a file that you need, click here to send an email to ILL asking for the file to be re-sent. Please note this may take not be immediate, as a new request may need to be submitted.
Can textbooks be ordered through interlibrary loan?
Ordering textbooks through interlibrary loan is problematic for a number of reasons. Here are a few of the issues often encountered when requesting textbooks:
1. Textbooks are often non-circulating by the lending library. This is especially the required edition, which is usually the newest.
2. Textbooks are rarely lent for an entire semester.
3. Fewer libraries own them.
4. Saint Rose’s interlibrary loan budget does not cover textbooks, so we cannot borrow from as many libraries.
5. Often, even if the correct edition is ordered, we receive an older edition.
6. Markings left by the student (very common and handy in textbooks) will be considered damages and you will be billed for replacement costs.
We are best at:
1. Requesting chapters of the textbook while you wait for one to arrive from a bookseller (as permitted by copyright).
2. Requesting an older edition of the book, which will usually have similar content.
