Library Services for Persons With Disabilities
Introduction
The Neil Hellman Library serves as a resource for all members of The College of Saint Rose community. We strive to make the library an accessible and inclusive space and offer a number of services and accommodations intended to enhance use of the library by persons with disabilities. This guide provides information about library accessibility, in addition to linking to the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities, which
coordinates academic support services for students with disabilities.
Building Accessibility
The entrance to the library is located on the south side of the building, facing the Campus Green. The building has three main levels. Elevators are located on the South and West sides of the building. Accessible women's restrooms are located on the Basement, First, and Third floors and accessible men's restrooms are located on the Basement and Second floors. Please visit the Circulation or Reference Desks, located on the First floor, if you need assistance accessing rooms in the building or items from the library's shelves. A floor plan indicating the location of elevators and restrooms is found at the bottom of this page.
Research Assistance
The Reference Desk is always staffed by a trained reference librarian. Visit the Reference Desk if you need assistance with research or if you want to learn more about the library's services and resources. You can also make a one-on-one appointment with a librarian for more in-depth research assistance. Make an appointment
here
.
Off Campus Access
You can access many of the library's electronic resources, including e-books, journals, and databases, from off campus. When accessing these resources you will be redirected to a page asking for a username and password. Detailed instructions are located
here
.
Library Book Hold
Library users with disabilities can request that library-owned books be pulled from the shelves and held for them at the Circulation Desk. Books will be held for up to one week. Hold requests can be placed
here
. You can also place a book hold by calling the Circulation Desk: 518-454-5183
Assistive Equipment
A low vision video magnification system (Optelec) is located on the First floor of the library. Please visit the Reference Desk for assistance.
First Floor Library Floor Plan
The following is a floor plan of the First floor of the library (not to scale) indicating locations of the entrance, elevators, restrooms, and the video magnifier. Restrooms on the Basement, Second, and Third floors are located directly below and above the restroom on the First floor.
